The City of Guyton, Georgia is seeking an energetic individual to join our Public Works team as laborer for water and sewer, and streets and lanes. 

The Laborer will perform general and specific duties related to the City of Guyton’s water and sewer system, and streets and lanes.  Accuracy and the ability to prioritize and multitask is crucial. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). 

A high school diploma or GED is required.  This is a full-time position that includes benefits. The successful candidate must be someone who is willing to work and willing to learn.  This position holds a potential for growth and a career opportunity for the right person.

The City of Guyton is currently hiring for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. The minimum requirements of the position are as follows;

  • Must be twenty-one years of age.
  • Never convicted of a felony crime. 
  • Possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent.
  • Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified as a Peace Officer and eligible for employment by P.O.S.T. Standards
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License and good driving record.
  • U.S. Citizen who is physically and mentally able to perform the essential job functions of the position
  • Pass a detailed background investigation, including prior employment, driver’s history and criminal history checks.

Compensation for this position includes medical, dental, vision coverage for the employee with additional coverage available. The hourly pay range is from $15.00 to $16.55 based on experience and subject to a 6-month probationary period. The City of Guyton is seeking a Fire Chief to plan, direct, organize and coordinate the activities of the Guyton Fire Department. The Fire Department is subject to ISO inspections. Necessary knowledge/skills are as follows:

  • Thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention and emergency medical services principles, procedures, techniques and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and their application as demonstrated through State E.M.T Certification; Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinance, departmental standard operating procedures and regulations.
  • Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to train and supervise subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to create/present to Council/implement annual budget
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Ability to effectively give and receive verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and public.

o   Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with specialized training in fire department administration.

  • Must possess a valid State Driver’s License with Commercial Driver’s License endorsement or certification of Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention Program (EVAP) without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
